Sounds like that's what happened. I believe you can book through Orbitz, but then go on the airline site and change whatever seats they gave you if it wasn't what you wanted. In fact, it's a good double-check to make sure that what you bought through Orbitz made it through to the airline's records. I've never had a problem with Orbitz losing a reservation, but every computer system hiccups once in awhile.
