Some hotels (Iīve experienced) will put a service charge on your bill without sharing it.
Some hotels outsourced the housekeeping services...
I didnīt want to start a tipping discussion, but if people like you or me are having a good time (especially being on PB on the Maldives!), it should be ok to have a spare dollar for housekeeping.
I fully see your point, and its as bit OT,
but I actually spoke to several of the employees. They have around 360, and I think about 17 at least nationalities.
Irish GM, and I even visited the employees quarter/kitchen. It seemed very well run. No outsourcing for sure. I actually dont see any country where your assumption could be less valid than Maldives.
