After calling hotel security, the guest was arrest and charged with assault/attempted rape.
However, in the course of piecing together what happened, it came out that:
1) The security cameras in the elevator were "not working" even though someone was sitting at the security desk 15 feet away from the elevator supposedly watching monitors
2) Despite repeatedly indicating that I wanted to press charges, I was asked by the head of hotel security to drop the charges because the man had been humiliated enough. This occurred in front of the chief of police.
3) Finally, despite there was an incident report filed with the police outlining the assault details and repeatedly asking the hotel for a copy of it to give to the US Embassy (to monitor legal proceedings), I never actually received a copy from the hotel (I asked for over two days)
I reached out to Starwood corporate in the US on the 4th thinking that they would resolve these issues for me. Today, when I was following up I was told by someone in the consumer affairs (executive division) the following:
1) That I was essentially lying when I stated that the head of hotel security had asked me to drop the charges against the perpetrator in front of the chief of police for the region
2) That the email from the GM of the hotel had addressed the security lapses at the hotel (it had not)
3) That the hotel was under no obligation to give me the police report because they didn't have the authority to do so and it wasn't their responsibility despite them repeatedly telling me that they would give it to me
4) The hotel had no responsibility for what happened to me at the property even though it had occurred in a public area where there were supposed to be functioning security cameras
I need the paperwork from the assault to give to the US Embassy (I am a US citizen) to ensure that the charges don't get "dropped" or the paperwork disappears... I have done business in India before and am a little too jaded about their legal system.
Anyone have any ideas how to get in touch with someone at Starwood who can actually be helpful in this situation?
So besides making sure security is up to par and the charges are not dropped, exactly what else do you want from SPG?
