If you do not know Berlin, you should stay three days there. For US standards, there are plenty of "old buildings" in Berlin. And you certainly do not take a train back to Berlin, but should take the train from Görlitz to Breslau (or Wroclaw how the Polish call it) stay a night there and continue to Krakau (or Krakow). Total travel time is six hours. I would even not expect any direct flights from Berlin to Krakau.
