7 Free Nights at any Hilton Property for the last 20 years of your life.
I preface this conversation to say that I am someone who likes to stay in nice hotels 10 days a year for cheap rates and typically do not spend more than $150 per night at a hotel but generally stay in 3* or better places.
I sat in on a Hilton promotional presentation in New York City this weekend and they presented what seemed like an interesting offer but I'd love to see what people thought of the deal they offered.
Essentially, You agree to buy a share of a building they in NYC for $50,000 and in return they give you: a deed to a fraction of the building which you can sell at any time, Gold Hilton status for life, and 252,000 HH points each year for the rest of your life. These points can be rolled over from year to year and never expire. Also they said they would give a one time bonus at the signing for 675,000 HH points.
To me the benefits of this deal are as follows:
1)If you typically spend $150 per night for 10 nights a year, in 33 years you will have paid off your investment and if you are say 30 years old now, you will receive 252,000 HH points (good for 7 nights at the best Hilton Hotels) for free for the rest of your life by the time you are 63 years old.
2) You essentially lock in decent hotels at a rate of $150 for the next 33 years.
3) You gain an asset that you can sell or bequeath to someone at a point later in your life.
4) You get access to the Hilton Clubs and free breakfast and drinks for most stays.
Cons:
1) If you don't use you HH points each year you gamble that the HH program will continue to operate for the next 50 years and that hilton will not significant devalue their program.
2) you have to mainly stay in hilton hotels for the rest of your life
3) and perhaps most importantly. You have to invest $50,000 which may or may not appreciate at the end and therefore the money could have been invested much more wisely in something else?
Is this a good deal? admittedly, I never got to the fine print but as it stands is this worth doing?
