The in-car navigation in the BMW we rented in Germany was so pisspoor as to make a TomTom Chinese knockoff with a map database from 1978 look to be an attractive alternative. As a result of this lapse in user interface judgment, I racked up $67 in data charges for Google Maps on my phone.

After discussion, I think my buddy and I will pool our resources and buy the European maps for one of our GPS devices next time and not rely on crappy design from the in-car systems.
