You should call BA again and demand a seat reservation, after all it's BA metal. It it doesn't work, ask to speak with a supervisor. At least he/she should be able to explain how you should proceed.

Just called BA again and the operator said that AA 'still' needs to issue the ticket before BA can pre-assign the seat.
I really don't understand this considering I already bought the flight off AA.com!
