I too have only seen one LFBU in my career with AA. It was on an LAX-BOS 763 mid-winter of last year as I was doing the gold challenge. Both first class and the main cabin on that flight were 1/2 full. I saw value in the upgrade by being able to avoid the general security lane at LAX that stretched over to the Tom Bradley Intl. Terminal.
