clarification of "original inventory req."

When there are weather delays, aa usually allows pax to make changes in their itn., and in the column "original inventory req." many times the word "yes" appears.
If (on an intl. flt.) I have already been confirmed in "C" class (via an evip), and the flight I want to change to also has "C" availability, does this meet the "yes" restriction? Or does the restriction apply to the initially booked "y" class ticket--so if, say, I purchased a "Q" class ticket, does "Q" also have to be available on my new flt.?
