I think that's the dilemma for many coffee drinkers abroad: They need to turn to Starbucks to get something decent. In Asia, the biggest problem is the coffee is too overroasted, or everything is a espresso roast, after I'm done drinking those coffees, my taste buds feel like they've been run over by an SUV.

Well said. We don't have a Starbucks in our city in China (they are threatening) but all the coffee houses make their coffee so strong that you can't just sip a few cups without getting the jitters.
My Japanese wife feels Canadian / American style coffee is just too weak - not that Starbucks is as weak as a Tim Horton's or Dunkin Donuts's coffee but it is decent drink you can drink throughout the day.
