If you're carrying a suitcase with you, I would now spring for the New York Airport Service express bus from LGA to Port Authority Bus Terminal, which is very close to Times Square. The fare from LGA to Manhattan has recently been reduced to $5.00. (The fare from Manhattan to LGA is higher.)
