so what exactly happens when i book CO codeshare operated by united, with a companion?

seats have already been assigned in E- and no auto waitlist even tho i'm a 2p. after i call the agent is it supposed to reflect a pending/waitlisted status online to show that at least i'm eligible?

also, since my PNR has a companion, i read on the UA website somewhere that the companion is not going to be able to upgrade until 2 hrs before flight correct? does having a companion on my PNR affect my own eligibility to upgrade at the 48 hr mark or at the gate?
