Again you have to select your seats on united.com immediately after booking. If you get the eTicket receipt from continental.com in your email, its too late and the CO system has already assigned you seats.
I've tried this several times over the past couple of weeks. It works. If I don't assign seats myself via united.com, and let CO assign my seats, I don't get automatically added to the UDU list.
Does anyone else have similar experiences?
I suspect soon UA will get wise to this and start conducting UDU "sweeps" similar to the E+ "sweeps" that are currently done.
You're absolutely correct. I let CO pick my seats and then called to get added to the UDU list, UDU shows as pending. Right at the 72 hour mark UDU disappears. At 24 hours, can't check in online. So I go to the airport and it takes a friendly GS agent 10 minutes to get my ticket sorted out. Apparently the system was trying to find an instrument to support my upgrade request and I didn't have any as I'm only a 1P. UDU processed normally after she checked us in. Long story short. The OP is correct, you have to select your seats before CO does it for you.
