My only complaint about the CATSA is they not accepting the checkpoint approved bags / sleeves. It's not that I need that ten seconds it takes to repack the laptop, but the added padding makes me less nervous. While there is no data on the laptop that's not replacable (and it's got two SSDs anyways, you can't mess up those like the HDDs can), breaking the laptop would mean I can't work properly until I get a new one. Still, it's a ThinkPad T so I have confidence (and the experience) it survives the rigors of screening just fine.

The pat down is like the old, not illegal in every state, TSA pat down plus a quick, much less obtrusive waist band ring around. That you can opt out is told to you when they are pointing you to the machine.
