You could do it either way, depends on whether you want to spend a week in Japan or a week in Germany. Personal choice.

We did YOW-IAD-NRT-FRA-YYZ, but I'd avoid that IAD-NRT United flight like the PLAGUE. We were in F, and it had VCRs. Broken ones. Makes for a LONG ~15 hours.
