Exactly! There are many reasons a seat can change such as aircraft swap, schedule changes with a change your routing, schedule changes without an aircraft swap, Air Marshal plus the airline can make the change to accommodate another (and perhaps higher status pax) which is why one should periodically check their itineraries (and pretty much every day starting the week before date of travel). It's a sad lesson but it has happened to all of us at one point in time.
