This is an out of line IMO, and inconsistent comment. Look at business traveller, travel review writers none pays for the tix but all can be more appreciative than someone "paying" and on his 200 premium ticket flight... For example I would say novelty is more of a factor affecting how much you "appreciate" as oppose to whom is paying.
