Do you tip front desk female escorts?
At some nice hotels, particularly in Asia, the front desk girl will check you in and then show you to your room. The bags are brought up at the same time (or later) by the bellman. I always tips the bellman who brings up the bags, even in countries where tipping is not particularly common.
My question is: Am I supposed to tip the nicely dressed front desk girl who escorts me to the room? So far, I haven't. She really hasn't done anything other than walk me to the room. OK, sometimes she'll point out the minibar. I don't know if she expects a tip, or if she would turn her nose up at a tip.
I feel weird about handing nicely dressed Asian women money in my hotel room. I also feel weird about handing the bellman money in front of her but stiffing her.
Please advise.
