ATL is one of the better airports when it comes to weather related delays in Winter. This month has been extraordinarily cold and snowy in the deep south and that is not the norm. There are suggestions on this board that you change hubs if you are worried about the weather in ATL. But believe me, there's a greater weather-delay risk in JFK, DTW, CVG and MSP than there is in ATL this time of year. Maybe MEM or SLC have lower weather-delay risks (even when it snows, SLC seems to manage quite well), but I'd stick with changing in ATL, unless you can get on the DTW-LAX 77L flight which is usually the aircraft used for LAX-SYD.
I disagree. You're better off in DTW or MSP. Every time I've gone through ATL, winter or summer, I've gotten delayed. DTW/MSP know how to handle snow. It takes a LOT to shut them down. ATL is a different story. If Ted Turner breaks wind, it shuts down.
