It's been a couple of years since I've done the crossing on foot, and certainly not at that time of day.
However, the experts here will probalby help you better if you tell them what passport you are carrying - that will make a

Don't recall seeing porters, though you could probably find someone on MX side, but I doubt that they will be able to go past US Immigration.
