I just encountered this problem when I wanted to cancel a reservation with the Sheraton HKG.
It was outside the business hours of the SPG office in Tokyo.
I also emailed SPG but haven't heard anything in the past 15 hours or so, which I find a bit strange, given they promptly reply usually.
I just wish either this type of problem be fixed or SPG offer a global toll-free number 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Some people live beyond the borders of the U.S.
