The 1970s "Friend Ship" design that debuted on the DC-10s is the winner !!
Receiving more than 29% of all votes, this livery debuted in 1971 on a Douglas DC-10 "Friend Ship." It was the only livery to feature stars alongside the United name.


2nd was the based on a Boeing 247-D that started flying in 1934, this livery was the first to use the "United Air Lines" name in large, bold letters. This livery option received 26% of the votes.

3rd was the popular in the late 1950s and 1960s, this style received nearly 17% of all votes. It was used on Douglas DC-8s, Boeing 720s, Sud Caravelles and Boeing 727s.

4th The 1974 Saul Bass-designed red, orange, and blue striped livery. An orange stripe was introduced into the livery color scheme in the 1970s and continued into the 1980s. This style generated just over 16% percent of the votes.

5th The 1946 dark blue and white livery used on DC-4s and the name was simply "United" - This livery debuted with the Douglas DC-4 in 1946, collecting more than 11 percent of vote. This fleet was the first to enable United to offer a wide variety of meals.
