EasyJet: "fly home early for free" experiences

Good evening.

I'll be making a day trip to Belfast tomorrow with Easyjet, and it looks like my meetings will be wrapped up long before my flight home. Has anyone successfully taken advantage of EasyJet's (discrete) offer of a free transfer to an earlier flight home? (described here)

There's an earlier flight and having checked easyjet.com there are at least forty seats free right now. I've already checked in for the later flight; would that be a problem?

Any info appreciated. Although I'd like to get home earlier I don't want to trek all the way out to BFS from the city if I then have to wait three hours. Thanks in advance
