I agree with some of the posters here that when flying East to West during the day it doesn't really matter whether I have a reclining or lie flat seat, I'm not going to get any serious sleep. For me, it denotes the holiday is over and I'm already thinking about what needs to be attended to once I'm home. On the other hand, flying East - in the evening - we're starting our holiday. I usually have a few glasses of wine in the lounge, eat dinner with probably another glass of wine

(I need to remember to bring my own dinner on board...) and tell the FA that I'm ready for her to make up my "bed"/pod, then nighty night. Yes, REM sleep was involved last September when flying to Heathrow on Virgin Atlantic.
