There is indeed a DCA-MSY non stop (not sure why you don't believe it!). Right now though it is operated in April as DL3147 depart DCA 10.15am arrive MSY 12.10pm. Through end of March it operates as the OP indicated above.

Not just "direct" (i.e. stop but usually no plane change unless same flight number with "change of gauge"), but also "non stop" which means just that. In fact, the non stop would work well with the OP's original arrival time into MSY.
