I have a 2.5 hour connection through NRT in a week on UA from SFO to BKK. I was planning on using that time to visit the post office on the 4th floor departures to mail a gift to my aunt in tokyo. You would need to go through immigration and customs, then go upstairs to the post office, mail the gift, and go through departures security like an NRT-originating passenger.
