Westin Providence (RI) review
Spent the past weekend there for a wedding. Not having been to Providence for some time, I must say that the city is much nicer than I remembered. Urban renewal projects have transformed what was once just a dirty railyard to a pleasant riverwalk. The hotel is conveniently located being directly connected to the convention center and Providence Plaza shopping mall. Check-in was smooth- the hotel clerk stated that our room had been upgraded in recognition of my plat status, and handed me the plat amenity card without prompting. Our room was a corner room- no suite, although I did see one of the junior suites. The junior suite was basically just a larger room with a couch in it, and fewer windows. No club level or lounge. The gym is very nice and extensive, although there is a 6.00 fee to use it each day. The fee is waived for plat members, but be sure to look for it on your bill. It turned up on my bill, but was removed at checkout when the hotel clerk noticed it. Ate the breakfast buffet at Agora's which is one of two restaraunts in the hotel-- standard fare with an omelet station. Of note, the hotel seems to be quite a social center at night for middle aged singles in Providence. One of the bars has live bands which play mostly the type of music you hear at weddings. One quibble is that the valet parking at the hotel is 20.00 per day which seems a bit excessive- use the self-parking instead. All in all a pleasant stay, I would stay there again. Check the rates at this hotel thoroughly, they varied quite a bit from website to website ranging from $169-$209/night for the same room type on the *wood sites alone.
