If you are in the airport, and there is a "scan your boarding pass here" kiosk, you'll generally be re-routed. If you have SC, they'll get creative for you too. As to MQMs, yes...you' get them. On the other hand, if you end up on a shorter flight, email DL with the original flights, and you'll probably get the "original" higher miles.
