Strongly considering a 3 week trip to Uganda and Rwanda sometime this spring which seems to be a fairly well travelled path. What is a little more off the beaten path is that I'm considering perhaps tagging on a few days in Burundi at the end of the trip. I would likely either bus or fly from Kigali up to Bujumbura and then spend a couple days exploring the city and Lake Tanganyika.

I'm wondering if anybody here has any direct experience in Burundi? In particular I'd like to know how the security situation is? Based on various government travel websites (US, UK, Aus, Can) recommendations range from exercising caution to flat out warnings to "Avoid all travel".

Other than the security situation any advice on things to see/do would be greatly appreciated!
