But you are obliged to buy many special glasses and give drinks to all your friends back home, so it will end up costing you quite a bit. If you buy smaller glasses, you can serve more friends. But definitely it is a unique experience.

What I read is that it is illegal to export it commercially or ship it for sale outside Saudi, but pilgrims can obtain it in Makkah and take it as accompanied baggage, hence the baggage regulations.

I just read that in September the King opened a purification and distribution plant that allows pilgrims to fill the 10 liter containers at 42 stations.

I can't vouch for any of this first-hand.
