My upgrade percentage since getting Gold three years ago has been pretty impressive, too - on flights where I wasn't already in the highest cabin, I reckon it's running at 75% on BA (and that includes F to SYD, LAX and HKG).
I must be genuinely unlucky: I've been GGL for 2 years and haven't had a single upgrade! Closest I got was when I had a faulty seat but they didn't have anywhere to send me except back.
