Renting with a 22-year-old colleague in Europe
I am President's Circle and rent very frequently in Europe, so I have plenty of experience dealing with Hertz there, but normally I am renting alone. In a couple of weeks, I will start a period of a couple of months with a colleague "along for the ride". He is only 22 years old (which of course makes me rather jealous) and so I am running into something with which I have no recent experience - age restrictions. I do need to have him authorized as an additional driver.
He is set up with a family #1 Club Gold membership, which I understand should waive underage FEES, but does that get around age RESTRICTIONS? I ask this as the Hertz site officially indicates that the minimum age for any vehicle in Spain is 23 (even with fee) and for the Volvos I usually rent it is strictly 28 (!). Are those age restrictions enforced with respect to a #1 Club Gold member?
Also, in order to avoid an underage fee being applied, I have read that the rental must be booked using the "Gold Family" CDP. Is there any way that that can be made compatible with other CDP's? Right now, to use the "Gold Family" number sends the overall rate up substantially with respect to the prevailing "Global Sale" rate.
And, can anyone give me that Gold Family PC number? When my colleague logs into his account, that discount is already recorded automatically, but if I go to book the rental, I need to have the number to enter, and we do not know it.
Also, is there normally an additional driver fee in addition to any underage fee, or is that again something that is waived with #1 Club membership or under the "Gold Family" program?
Finally, is there any way to have his #1 Club number already entered in the reservation alongside mine so that there isn't a bunch of rigamarole at the airport? Or does the additional driver - even if a Gold member - always have to be added manually at the airport, forcing a trip to the airport counter?
Thank you for your assistance.
