Question Request advice for 10-hour layover in Colombo

On a Sunday next month my wife and I plan to arrive in Colombo at about 3:30 p.m. on a UL flight from the Maldives and continue on to Bangkok (and beyond) on a CX flight at 1:30 a.m. or so on Monday. FWIW, we'll be in J on UL and F on CX and plan to just have carry-ons (unless UL is very restrictive in that regard). We'll have been in Sri Lanka for two weeks before a week in the Maldives (and then back through CMB on the Sunday/Monday on our way home).

I've read through some relevant, useful previous threads, but would still appreciate some advice:

1. Am I correct in assuming that we can stay in transit if we want rather than leaving the airport and going through immigration again?
2. If so, any sense of whether we'd have access to any lounges via our UL or CX tickets during that time?
3. Is there still a basic day room hotel in the airport? And in a previous thread, I'd seen references to one of the lounges having slumber rooms. Are both of those still options and if so do we need to book ahead?
4. If we wanted to leave the airport, my sense is that we could go to Negombo or Waikkal (sp?) for dinner. If so, any particular recommendations on where to head to?
5. Also, if we wanted to leave the airport, is there a place to store our bags?
6. And is it easy to simply get a taxi to and from the airport?
7. Finally, would it be too ambitious to go into town to the Galle Face Hotel for dinner? Would traffic be much lighter than usual on a Sunday? I ask about this because I have fond memories of the beach promenade scene near the Galle Face around sunset, from previous trips years ago.

Thanks for any advice!
