I received the infamous suite on a recent trip to K.C. (March 20th). When I called my wife from the room, I played her a song on the piano and she couldn't believe I was calling from the room! I didn't do anything special and was just upgraded upon check-in. My guess is that it was a slow night.
As for BBQ, if you don't mind going out of your way and you want what I consider THE BEST BBQ in K.C., try L.C.'s BBQ. It's probably a 20 minute drive from the Westin but, in my opinion, is well worth the jaunt.
