I fully see your point of view, but any procedure? Even those things that are ridiculous, expensive, a complete suspension of civil liberties, and non-effective? We could, for example, require all passengers to have a general anaesthetic and get stacked on the plane like baggage. No one would be able to set off a bomb in their underwear, but it’s an unacceptable cost for a marginal increase in security. Would stop the complaints about in flight catering though!

I suspect what you’re really advocating ( if I can so presumptions as to put words in your mouth) are things that are effective, preserve the spirit of a freeish and democratic society, and also accept that nothing can be 100% risk free. I’d be willing to accept that, what I don’t support is the current theatre that accomplishes nothing at great cost.
