My Experience is slightly different, booked IAD-LAX on UA metal for 12/23 and SNA-IAH-DCA on CO metal for 1/4 through co.com. Was able to get seats on the IAD-LAX flight, but no indication on united.com of my upgrade "pending, waitlisted etc" although i did get the UDU at the gate. I called a few times to see what the issue was and was told i was on the waitlist, even had the agent remove my MP number and add it back to no avail.
It's normal for CO code/ UA metal UDU scenario: you won't able to "see" the UDU status after your window reached. You are able to check it either via phone (check ug status) to make sure you're waitlisted or see the list on the gate monitor.
