I'd expect a little compensation for a completely avoidable flight cancellation. Some miles, $100 off e-cert, etc.
But unfortunately this is travel. Something can go wrong. Sometimes too many things go wrong at once. And all airlines make stupid mistakes like that. Sometimes, the collateral damage in terms of consequences to your life/schedule is meaningful. Its unfortunate. But its life. And its travel. No use in canceling a bunch of tickets and switching loyalty. You're not going to be as happy somewhere else.
