While not entirely relevant to the story, it should be noted that there's really no such thing as "Chinese" with regards to language. China is a big place, and there are a ton of languages spoken by people who live there, and it's quite possible that two people from China would best be able to communicate with each other in English.
It should also be noted that not once did I say she was speaking chinese. And besides, I heard her speaking in mandarin, being fluent myself. Also, I was born in China, so I'm pretty sure I understand the culture somewhat. The flight originated from PEK, which is a mainly mandarin speaking city. The FA was from some mandarin prevalent city as well, because her accent was Beijing hua.
