Singapore is small. Be adventuirous and taxi around to well known hawker centers. Geylang is well known for excellent food. Newton is outrageously toiuristy (and I don't recommend) but has decent seafood. Maxwell is an excellent hawker center near Chinatown. When I lived there I preferred "local" neighborhood wet market/hawker centers rather than the ones geared to the tourist trade. My two favorites were Zion Riverside and Bukit Merah View.
