The promotion code is all well and good to use the base service for free, however, to find a credit card that will reward more than the 2.5% fee (in a liquid form, not some supposed valuations, for example, of AA miles at 6cpm if used in F/J class to an overseas destination if you can manage to fly on February 30th).
Have I missed something here? Are the people who are using it, just using it for the other aspects of the service, not to actually find a way to come out slightly ahead each month by using this service to pay rent with CC when you can (easily) manage to pay the landlord directly by cash?
There are two main reasons a Flyertalker would see value here:
1) to reach spending thresholds on certain cards in order to receive bonus miles or other benefits whose value outweighs the fee cost
2) if you have a card that returns 4% - i.e., those of us grandfathered over to the Travelocity Amex from their MC product that earns 4% on certain redemptions
