There were no guarantees that you would have got an op-up so you did not needlessly hand over the SWU (eVIP). The SWU got you a confirmed seat in business class. Now a whole other discussion is whether it is a waste of a SWU when you would have got an op-up anyway. I try not to get too riled over that fictive reasoning. As long as I got what you paid for and it was good value I try to be content.
