That is not cut and dried. BA has the obligation to refund, put you on the next available flight they have or reroute (at the passengers choice and convenience not BA's). if they effectively deny rerouting by not taking calls (for whatever reason) then the OP has no other option to assert his rights under the EU Regs but to reroute himself.
BA has already refunded the ticket. Contract no longer exists. Case is closed. No further compensation applies. You cannot both claim a refund AND the cost of a new ticket. It's one or the other.
