I think the etiquette is pretty much accepted by everyone that if you are unfortunate to be sitting in the middle seat in coach then you DO get first right to BOTH armrests.
Seems right to me as well.
Aisle and window seats have one armrest certain to be free and what's left of the other one if middle seat isn't using it.
