Anybody ever root for bad weather?

I'm booked on a low-mileage reward economy ticket this Saturday, LGA-MSP-LAS with a 50-minute connection at MSP. The flight leaves after 6 PM and isn't scheduled to get into LAS untill 11 PM. I now wish I'd booked something much earlier in the day (this was the only 25,000 mile RT itinerary available) but I'm seeing snow in the forecast in NYC on Saturday. I wonder what the chances are that I can get a weather waiver and maybe get a morning flight instead? Or alternatively, if DL doesn't issue a weather waiver but there's still snow, would I be well served to show up early at the airport and try to fly standby on an earlier flight out of LGA? Might they accomodate me for free in such a situation?
