Oh, how I would give my left lung for them to do this. I HATE, repeat HATE being squished in to Y seats when someone is next to you, mainly because whomever is sitting in the middle seems to think that they're entitled to the armrest. It is so much more comfortable to have the seat next to you empty.
I didn't realize that the arm rest was for the exclusive use of the aisle or window passenger
In all seriousness, I always found the middle seat block a bit silly. It was made clear that the lock could be lifted and the middle seat assigned if loads required it. No one willingly chooses a middle seat until the loads require it.
