I spent several months as a GE partner a few years ago - on NZ the treatment was exactly the same as Gold Elite (which I had just dropped down from), including being marked *E on the crew manifest and being ahead of NZ*Gs for upgrades etc. Essentially nothing system-wise would differentiate you from a Gold Elite. When people say there isn't much additional benefit of making GE versus Gold I think they are forgetting to take things like this into account - being able to essentially gift GE status to a partner is pretty significant!
