This depends. If you're starting from scratch, its probably easier to MR. If you're already the type who flies a lot of segments, this SR could help push you over.
That said,
if you started from scratch, it would still take 18.5 BOS-SFO or 19 BOS-LAX round trips to make 100K EQMs (adding in connections changes this calculus). I don't think you can do more than one RT BOS-West Coast per day. So, days-spent flying is similar, and those transcons are not $168 a/i, though you do earn (many) more miles on the MR.
Thus, "ease" is more about what you prefer: short hops or transcons.
In this case, it is financially "easier" to do it on segments, but not necessarily better because of miles lost.
Then again, it could just depend on whether you're the type with a whole bunch of $250 e-certs or $100 e-certs
