The Brompton folding bicycle is an incredible commuting machine - and made in the UK. It is expensive, of excellent design (and build) BUT hard to get parts for it if you are outside the UK. It is suitable for taking travelling so you and your companion can bike about and you just may be able to put it into overhead luggage. I put mine into stored baggage. It is useless for long-distance bicycle touring
