capetown, I apologize for the less than friendly attitude of some of the staff at The Westin Santa Clara. Regrettably, the rate you booked with Expedia is a wholesale pre-paid rate and it is confidential between the hotel accounting office and Expedia, so it is very likely that the staff at the front desk are prevented from providing a receipt for that reason.
I would try to request one through Corporate Services and see what kind of response you get from the hotel. You can reach them toll-free at 800-328-6242. This will take a few days, however, and I'm uncertain of the turnaround time frame your working with here. Another route might be to ask your reimbursement office if they will accept both the bill that was printed for you by the hotel and your confirmation letter from Expedia as proof that you both paid and stayed.
Finally, perhaps there is another more experienced business traveler on Flyertalk who has had this problem in the past and can offer even another option or opinion.
