I agree, you don't have to show your e-ticket.

However:

1) If you are traveling on 2 seperate e-tickets with CX, the can ask you to show your e-ticket b/c otherwise the can't print your second boarding pass at check in for the 2nd flight. Happens me twice.

2) Costums will sometimes ask for your return ticket when enter the country...
